Agile Project Management - Join the Agile Revolution!
Agile project management builds on ideas from agile software development and applies them to project management. Agile methods generally promote a project management process that encourages stakeholder participation, feedback, objective metrics, and effective controls.
Why is agile project management (AgilePM®) so popular?
The qualifications for agile project management are increasing rapidly! Agile development methodologies such as Scrum dominate the software industry, but they are becoming increasingly popular in other industries too.
As more companies adopt agile methods, they are looking for specific agile project management skills to help them. People with agile project management certifications can therefore command a high price in the job market.
There are six key reasons why agile project management (AgilePM®) has proved popular.
1. It provides governance and agility.
Agile Project Management (AgilePM®) is based on the Agile Project Framework (APF), which was founded over 20 years ago, and blends both corporate governance aspects and key agile concepts and is specifically geared towards project managers. The authors of the APF were DSDM, one of the founding signatories of the Agile Manifesto.
2. Never compromise on quality
Never compromise on quality is an underlying principle of Agile Project Management (AgilePM®). This is facilitated by agreeing on high-level acceptance criteria throughout the project lifecycle.
3. Risk management
A starting point in Agile Project Management (AgilePM ®) for understanding risks is the project approach questionnaire. This enables a common understanding of project risks and how they can be mitigated.
4. gGes beyond product development strategies
Common agile methodologies such as Scrum offer product development approaches, but they do not address project management. Agile Project Management (AgilePM®) goes beyond Scrum by offering an agile project management approach.
5. Clear roles and responsibilities
Agile Project Management (AgilePM ®) assigns clear roles and responsibilities to people from the business, user, technical and management areas so that effective collaboration between stakeholders can be achieved.
6. Incorporates popular agile methods
Key agile practices such as MoSCoW, timeboxing and iterative development are included in Agile Project Management (AgilePM®) to support effective product development.
Changing requirements
Agile methods recognize that users often do not fully know their requirements when projects start and that they are therefore likely to change during the course of the project. While changing requirements can often be problematic in more traditional project management methods, agile methods are open to changing requirements.
In agile projects, time and cost are normally fixed elements, but project requirements and scope are variable. Agile projects are therefore better at delivering on time than more traditional project management methods.
Agile methods focus on incremental and iterative releases of products to users and customers, with each iteration or incremental release providing the user with even more features. Agile can therefore deliver products early to users, helping users to better understand and refine their requirements after some time of use.
AgilePM® (Agile Project Management) is the world's leading certification in agile project management. The qualification balances robust governance with a collaborative culture that inspires innovation and improves competitive advantage.
